Advanced Energy Strategies.... it's not just our name it's our work product

Since Energy deregulation was mandated, we have seen a migration from private investor owned utilities to publicly owned utilities. Economics and community responsiveness are the primary forces driving this migration. Local governments are seeking control of their local utility as a means to mitigate the impact of energy market volatility, and in this way help to protect the economic health of their communities. AES has assisted a number of clients in performing the economic and legal feasibility studies to determine the viability of this transition. Additionally, AES brings its experience with the wholesale energy markets, and utility operations to assist clients in developing and operating their own utility.

Some of our past work includes the following projects:

Northern California:

  • Set up a new utility, to take over operation of electric and gas utility operations from the U. S. Navy after base closure. Utility operations are ongoing.
  • Evaluated new generating alternatives for best fit with the utility's load and existing generating resources.
  • Investigated an emerging renewable resource to determine whether it would meet all of this municipal utility’s goals.
  • Evaluated feasibility of creating a new municipal utility to serve green field development within the city and started-up the new utility for the city.
  • Promoted and developed a 550 MW power plant for the city in conjunction with a major energy producer.
  • Analyzed development of a land-fill gas generating project.
  • Marketed a site for a large scale power plant to a major energy producer.
  • Consultant for a county on business arrangements to sell power from its hydro generation into the wholesale market.

Southern California:

  • Conducted an RFP for placement of a 50 MW peaking power plant in the city.
  • Assessed viability of acquiring a 22 MW cogeneration facility.
  • Studied the economic viability of a municipal utility to serve a 5,500- acre Air Force base.

Utah:

  • Studied the economic viability of a municipal utility to serve an Army base after it was selected to be reduced in scale.

Kentucky:

  • Developed a plan for implementing a municipal utility for the city which was approved by the city voters.

North American Energy Marketer:

  • Developed strategies for acquiring power in the national wholesale market to fit the load profiles of its customer base.
